Roofing Trend #1: Roofing Material Types

While shingles are still the most popular roofing material in the US, 2019 has seen a huge surge in the demand for other materials. The on-going push for environmentally friendly products has lead to an increase of solar roofs, cool roofs, and green roofs.

Metal roofing has also gained popularity recently due to the wildfires along the West coast. Metal roofing is an excellent fire resistant roofing option, so many have used it to adapt to new fire codes and fire proof their homes. Another roofing material trend is the use of silicone coating to seal roofs. This silicone coating provides an alternative to re-roofing and extends the life of the roof by forming a seal that prevents leaks and protects from UV rays.

Roofing Trend #2: Designer Roofs

Designer roofs is a trend that has been gaining momentum in 2019. While the name “designer roof” is intriguing, designer roofs are really just another way to say high quality roofs. They are

incredibly durable and often come with a lifetime warranty, making them popular for homeowners who live in areas with extreme weather risks. These luxury shingles look like a nicer material, such as slate tiles or cedar shake, but do not require the same maintenance as other materials. While the main draw of designer roofs is their durability and polished appearance, they can also create special effects on a roof, such as contouring. Of course, the drawback to such a high quality is a high price. Designer roofs can be quite expensive due to the high grade of the materials and the customization involved with them.

Roofing Trend #3: Roofing Technology

New technology is always surfacing in the roofing industry and 2019 is no exception. New, more powerful methods of generating leads are becoming available, allowing you to create custom search filters, quickly determine the owner of a building, and have access to their contact information.

Roofing software has also grown in the industry, with companies like AccuLynx allowing you to organize your projects and orders, getting jobs done faster and more efficiently. Apps area also providing contractors with an arrange of tools right in their pocket that can help save time and energy.

Another growing trend is the use of drones in the roofing industry. Contractors are using drones as a safer way to inspect roofs, take measurements, and even as a source of high quality pictures for their websites.

Roofing Trend #4: Roofing Marketing

One of the biggest trends in marketing at the moment is a shift towards targeted marketing. Roofing businesses are targeting their marketing towards niche groups instead of the public as a whole. This method is more cost and time efficient for companies, while also providing customers who are interested in your services with a more one-on-one relationship.

Another trend in marketing is a focus on content. By providing customers with plenty of content like tips on what to look for after a storm (for example), marketing teams know they are getting customers to engage in the topic and encouraging two-way communication. In a study done by the Content Marketing Institute, it is shown that, “Content marketing gets three times more leads than paid search advertising.” Especially in today’s world of social media and information, content can be a powerful way of spreading the word about your company.

Roofing Trend #5: Roofing Sales

The rules of selling have changed in recent years, moving from the traditional focus on price and product to trust and quality relationships. These days the “Always Be Closing” method just does not work the way it used to. Instead, customers are responding better to a salesperson who they feel like they can trust and who they view as a reliable resource on a topic they are not familiar with.

In addition to this, companies are now frequently employing social selling, a method that uses social media to find and connect with sales prospects. According to HubSpot, “Using social selling tools can increase win rates and deal size by 5% and 35%, respectively.” Social media is a huge part of current society, so using it in your sales is an invaluable tool.

Many aspects of the traditional roofing industry are changing, especially within the last year. From the materials customers are demanding to the way companies are taking advantage of a more interconnected and technology oriented society, the roofing industry is adapting to a rapidly changing market. With this much change so far in 2019, one can only say how it will continue to adjust the rest of the year.

I liked reading that high-quality roofs are trending, such as slate tiles, which are more durable and polished-looking. My uncle just had a slate roof installed on the home he’s custom building for his family.
