4 Reasons Why Should You Trust the Cloud with Your Business Data

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

At this point, everyone has at least heard of “The Cloud“, and recognize it as that ambiguous, invisible, possibly imaginary place on the internet where all of your photos and forgotten passwords live. You get the general idea – it’s an intangible place where you can store unlimited amounts of digital information, and more and more businesses are starting to transition from from physical networks and filing systems to this modernized server based platform.

The ambiguity of the cloud can leave people on edge.

What is it? Where is it? How do I know that my important business data is safe there?

1 – It’s Always Accessible

Ease of access is one of the biggest roofing software benefits. A traditional onsite file storage solution means you have to be in the office to access your company information, or you have to set up a complicated VPN (Virtual Private Network) through a security provider, which can incur high yearly costs. Having your company data in the cloud means you don’t need to waste time with virtual tunnels to your information.

“But if I can access my data, couldn’t anyone?”

2 – Your Data is More Secure Than You Realize

Without getting into the nitty gritty – here’s what you need to know: The Cloud is all about replication. Your data on the cloud is actually housed on massive servers in several geographic locations around the country, maintained by industry leaders like Amazon – and they all talk to each other – which means that your data can essentially never get lost, or deleted.

One of the biggest benefits of this is that those companies (who also store your data) need these platforms to be viable in maintaining regulatory security and compliance. This nuclear-level security means your data has the highest level of protection – way more than your local IT guy can offer when your desktop fries out, or you leave your account unlocked.

3 – Your Storage Space is Growing

Gone are the days when you needed office space to store stacks of boxes and archived files. The beauty of the cloud is that it’s infinitely scaleable. Say you currently use 1 gig of storage, and by next year you need 2 gigs – that’s ok! When you’re talking about data storage, you can always use more, and oftentimes you get better pricing for the larger amounts of online storage. Not so with physical files.

4 – Your Maintenance is Included

Software and IT infrastructure are ever-evolving. Sure, you could build your own platform, or continue to use paper documentation. However, when you compare those upfront and ongoing costs to a low monthly payment to your data service provider, who have the resources already in place to take care of daily maintenance, make updates and roll out new features, it’s a no-brainer. You could easily end up pay several times that same cost trying to reinvent the wheel.

I like that you said that the beauty of the cloud is that it’s infinitely scalable. I think it would be smart for businesses to use cloud storage because it would be more adaptable than physical storage or storage of another kind because it’s easier to manage. I also think ti would be good because you could store a lot of information or data without having to worry about it taking up too much space or about it getting ruined in an accident which would be nice too.

I like how you mentioned that the cloud is actually pretty secure, as it typically gets regular maintenance. One of my friends is wanting to start a business. I’ll have to see what he thinks of using the cloud for storage.
